About the event

Kaleidoscope focuses on the wide range of what American music encompasses: with composers from diverse backgrounds, genres from classical to pop, and arrangements written by Sphere musicians specifically for the group. Featured works include an exciting string orchestra version of Pisachi by American Indian (Chickasaw) classical composer Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate, the dramatic and atonal String Symphony by Chinese-born American composer Tan Dun, Caroline Shaw’s Entr’acte- an absurd and subtle riff on the classical minuet and trio, as well as the lively Juba from Florence Price’s second string quartet. We will also bring back two favorite Sphere pop pieces, “At Last” and our amazing Prince Medley, as well as three brand new Sphere arrangements of piano works: Gottschalk's Souvenir de Porto Rico, a classic Scott Joplin rag, and a favorite by Randy Newman.
